In January of 2018 my good friend and online client, James C., decided that it was time for him to make some changes and embarked on a quest to transform his mental and physical health. By October of 2018, James had officially lost 100lbs. I sat down with James to ask him some questions about his amazing transformation. Below is our Q and A conversation: Kristian: Thanks for making the time to do this interview today. I really appreciate it. James: Anything for you, Kristian. I hope that somebody reading this feels inspired by something I say. K: Your weight loss journey started in January of 2018. What made you decide to try and lose this weight? J: Initially I actually didn't set out to lose weight, per say. I just wanted to feel better. I had gotten out of a sedentary job and a sedentary relationship. I was out of shape, out of breath, and struggled with basic daily activities. K: What has been the most challenging part of your weight loss journey?
J: Changing my nutrition and food quality was tough, but I knew I had to do it to get healthy. I had to break the routine of beers and "Wing Wednesdays" and the like. Now I have a new eating routine and I don't miss those old foods...well, not too much! K: What is the BEST part about losing 100lbs? J: Looking in the mirror and having the body of a 25 year old (at 46 years of age). Also, the attention from women has been great (laughs). It's all helped to boost my self-esteem. K: How do you deal with food cravings? J: Walking, listening to music, and lots of coffee (laughs). I set my home up so that I don't have WiFi or cable TV. I see my home as a place to eat and sleep. If I'm not eating or sleeping then I'm out doing things. This has helped to combat mindless eating. K: What's your favourite "cheat meal" ? J: Brazillian BBQ...You ever had it? K: Yep, and I've experienced the "meat sweats" too. J: Haha. Me too. K: I sensed that you had reservations when I first proposed the idea of online training. Could you tell me more about those reservations? J: I thought that it would be very expensive; I had no idea that it would be affordable and personalized. I made a simple shift to my entertainment budget and have found it to be totally manageable. This process has been a lot more personalized than I thought, and I am happy to work with someone who has found his "calling" in life. K: Wow, thanks, James. That means a lot. J: No, No. Thank you. K: What is your favourite training phase that we've done together? What is your favourite exercise? J: Wow. That's a tough one. There have been so many to choose from. I have liked all of the hypertrophy (muscle building) phases we've gone through. I love the stability ball skull-crushers. So far I haven't crushed my skull (laughs). K: What is your least favourite exercise? J: I don't want to tell you because I'm afraid you'll make me do more of this exercise. K: Haha. I promise I won't. J: I don't like doing the external rotator cuff exercises because they are boring. I know they are good for warm-ups and for healthy shoulders, but I just want to get down to business! K: Haha. I get that, and I feel the same way about those exercises. Boring, but necessary. K: Favourite Quote? J: "Sometimes you eat the bun and sometimes the bun eats you." This quote can apply to a lot of things other than just buns. K: What advice would you give to someone looking to lose a significant amount of weight? J: Two words: Patience. Perseverance. I'd also like to add that I think it's best to make sure that you focus on improving your mental well-being before you can improve your physical well-being. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Learn from those mistakes, and be kind to yourself. K: Last question. You've done something amazing in losing 100 lbs and transforming yourself. So,what does the 100 lb man set as a goal for 2019? J: I believe that 2019 is the "year of love" if you know what I'm saying. I like to keep life simple. Find a job and a person that you love and that's all you need. Also, I want to make sure that I never have to lose 100lbs again! (laughs). K: Thanks again so much for this James. You're the man. J: No, you're the man K: No, you're the man. Final Answer! J: Ok, we're the men! J,K: (Laugh and Chuckle) Thanks again to James for doing this interview and thanks to those of you who have taken the time to read. All the best to you in 2019! Sincerely, Coach Kris and James C (AKA, "The Man, The Myth, The Legend")
